WORM FARMING SCHOOL INCURSION
As Western Australia’s worm farm specialists we take great delight in offering our Worm Farming School Incursion conducted by the Foothills Sustainability Centre designed to encourage and support worm composting and waste reduction in schools
In brief our worm farming school incursion includes live worms, unique wheelie bin worm farms (made on site!), worm products, worm quiz, visual material and more
We suggest this could be the highlight of your school incursions this year as it is very much a hands-on exercise and an exciting discipline where science meets nature
The Worm Farming Incursion tailored for your school will be very informative given that we genuine worm farmers and manufacture ALL our unique wheelie bin worm farms on site at the Foothills Sustainability Centre as well as raising our own compost worms
Forget the old bath tub worm or stackable types of worm farms available elsewhere, as they can be difficult to operate and maintain. Our quest is ‘making worms matter’ and ‘making worm farming easy’.
Who benefits from a worm farming incursion?
We provide informative Worm Farming School Incursions directed towards any Year level and indeed the community at large
Our goal is to develop in the participating students and schools a respect and appreciation of these wonderful creatures and understand why they are so important for our well-being
The hands-on experience with worm composting concentrates on how worms can reduce food scraps and waste into healthy garden soil and encourage microbial activity to enrich garden produce
Worm Farm Incursion topics
We endeavour to provide dynamic and informative incursions with both practical and theoretical elements covered during a typical session:-
- Worm ecology and role of worms in the ecosystem
- Examining live worms to identify their amazing features and adaptations
- The state of waste management, minimisation and recycling in the community
- A practical introduction to various worm farms; in-ground, conventional, wheelie bin and large scale commercial (students will take part in the setting up of a typical wheelie bin worm farm)
- Upkeep and care of worm farms including do’s and don’ts in relation to feeding and tendering
- Emphasis on composting benefits and the production of nutrient rich worm juice and worm castings to add to our nutrient deficient soils

School Worm farming Incursion: Care & Attention
We find that some children are perhaps a little bit apprehensive initially during our worm farming incursions but quickly come around to delight in observing worm behaviour and appreciating the proven results of their activity
Disposable gloves are provided so that both the children taking part and the worms remain happy throughout the human contact and avoid any ‘yucky’ feelings on either side
The worms love the outing and attention the children bestow upon them during the worm farming incursions but we stress that the worms must be gently handled to avoid any harm
Cost
Cost is $275.00 +GST for a single 1 hour class or $495.00 +GST for two consecutive approximately 1 hour classes on the same day ; plus travel expenses depending upon location
