Continuous Flow Through (CFTs) Worm Farms V's Other Types

Continuous flow through worm farms are rapidly becoming a favourite among worm farmers, households, business customers and schools due to the lack of mess and easy operation of this method of worm farming.

CFT worm farms are designed to overcome the disadvantages of stackable or other types of worm farms such as reconstituted fridges and the like.

Non-CFT worm farms often end up with a waterlogged muck of castings and bedding at the bottom making harvesting and clean up a mess.

Flow through systems have a distinct advantage when it comes to harvesting worm castings as they avoid the task or separating the worms from the vermicast or worm compost

CFT’s take advantage of the composting worm’s natural instincts to live within the first 20 centimetres or so of decomposing matter in the top of the worm farm.

In a CFT system food is added to the top of the bin where the worms live and feed and worm castings are harvested via an easy-open door at the base of the worm farm.

There is an industrial quality tap at the base to release the worm juice or leachate.

A significant feature of the CFT is that you don’t lose worm eggs (cocoons) and baby worms when harvesting worm castings as the newly hatched worms remain in the top strata of the worm farm.

Another feature of the mobile CFT wheelie bin is its portability being able to be located away from hot summer sunshine and it can readily be utilised both outside or even inside a classroom to assist in science and related curriculum topics.
